At least 51 suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorists group were
yesterday shot dead as a result of military attacks on camps along
Damboa- Gwoza road of Borno State, military sources have said.
The
attack which involved both land and air raidstook place at Bita village
near Damboa town, 85km away from Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
According
to the usually credible security source, which disclosed the
information, the military raid started on Sunday and ended on Tuesday.
It
also said soldiers of the 7 Division, Nigeria army acted on a tip-off
that the terrorists were camping in bushes around Bita village.
The source called the launched attacks successful.
The
Spokesman of the 7 Division, Col Muhammed Dole, could not respond to
email enquiry sent him for confirmation of the incident.
But the
state deputy governor, Zanna Mustapha, who visited the troubled Gwoza
area along side the General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Major General
Obidha Ethan without media coverage, came back very late on Tuesday,
held a marathon closed door meeting at the office of the deputy governor
almost the whole day yesterday.
